The former engineer has built one of India’s largest e-tailers, connecting millions of small merchants with small-town shoppers seeking budget fashion.

Vidit Aatrey is the founder and CEO of Meesho, one of India's largest e-commerce platforms, selling everything from unbranded clothing to home essentials. With Aatrey at the helm, Meesho made its market debut in 2025, becoming India’s first major horizontal e-commerce platform to list publicly. In the 2026 financial year, the company generated $1.3 billion in revenue.

An electrical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Aatrey began his entrepreneurial career in 2015 with Fashnear, a hyperlocal fashion delivery platform he set up with Sanjeev Kumar (also known as Sanjeev Barnwal), Meesho co-founder and CTO.

After the business failed to take off, the pair spent time with local merchants in Bengaluru and noticed many were selling through WhatsApp. They responded by building Meesho, which evolved through several iterations into a platform connecting suppliers with a network of resellers. As cheaper data brought more Indians online, Aatrey and Barnwal transformed Meesho into an e-commerce marketplace offering affordable products across categories.

In a market dominated by Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon India, Aatrey has carved out a niche for Meesho by focusing on small merchants selling unbranded items to consumers in small cities and towns. He leads the company’s executive management team and is responsible for setting its strategic vision.

Aatrey, who previously worked at consumer goods company ITC and Bengaluru-based ad-tech company InMobi, is also an angel investor with a portfolio including q-commerce platform BazaarNow and financial-services firm Raise.
