Nick Wakeman
Founder & Creative Director, Studio Nicholson
The British designer's modular approach to men's and women's wardrobing has made Studio Nicholson a fixture in the world's most considered shops, with strong traction in Asia.

Nick Wakeman is the founder and creative director of Studio Nicholson, a London-based label fashioned around the idea of a modular wardrobe. Distributed through retailers including Dover Street Market, Mr Porter and Ssense, Wakeman studied textile design at Chelsea College of Arts in London before working for two decades in menswear design, print and graphics for brands ranging from Diesel to Marks & Spencer. In 1999, Wakeman co-founded the label Birdie with Japanese retailer Beams, establishing lasting ties with Japanese textile mills. Drawing on her expertise in textiles, Wakeman founded Studio Nicholson in London in 2010. Studio Nicholson has expanded internationally, opening its first international flagship outside the UK in Tokyo's Aoyama district in July 2023. The brand scaled its online and physical retail in mainland China in 2024. It opened flagship stores at Réel Mall in Shanghai and a 158-square-metre space at Taikoo Li Sanlitun in Beijing, as well as an official online storefront, on Alibaba's Tmall Luxury Pavilion.
Wakeman partnered with Zara on a collaborative menswear capsule in September 2022, followed by an expanded collection spanning menswear, womenswear and homeware in November 2023. In 2018, Studio Nicholson won the Fashion Prize of Tokyo.
