Laura Weir
Chief Executive, British Fashion Council
The former fashion journalist has instituted a strategic reset at the governing body of British fashion, refocusing on the designers it exists to serve.

Laura Weir is the chief executive officer of the British Fashion Council, taking office in April 2025. Since her appointment, she has led the governing body of British fashion through a major strategic reset, introducing the framework BFC 2030: Access, Creativity, Growth to reorient the organisation towards direct financial support for designers, talent pipeline development and regional investment across the United Kingdom.
Weir began her career in fashion journalism at trade publication Retail Week, reporting on commercial operations and retail strategy. She subsequently joined Drapers, where she covered British fashion wholesale, manufacturing and independent retail. She served as fashion features editor at British Vogue and style contributor at The Sunday Times before being named editor-in-chief of the London Evening Standard's ES Magazine from 2015 to 2021. In January 2023, she was appointed executive creative director at luxury department store Selfridges, overseeing brand strategy, marketing, communications and visual campaigns.
At the British Fashion Council, she has strengthened London Fashion Week by re-engaging established British heritage brands and expanding international buyer attendance. She led the BFC Foundation's fundraising drive at The Fashion Awards 2025 to generate over £1 million in direct grants and mentoring for emerging designers and served as an industry mentor for initiatives including Paul Smith's Foundation.
