The retailer is reshaping Latin America’s luxury landscape, championing regional designers alongside global names as Malva expands across Colombia, Peru, Panama and Spain.

Alan Bursztyn

Alan Bursztyn is the co-founder and chief executive of Malva, one of Latin America’s leading luxury multi-brand retailers. He has rapidly expanded Malva’s regional footprint to a dozen locations in Colombia including its three-storey Bogotá flagship and stores in cities such as Medellín, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Cali and Bucaramanga as well as two stores in Peru and one in Panama, alongside an e-commerce business.

Bursztyn co-founded Malva in 2019 in Cartagena, Colombia, with fashion designer and consultant Lorena Cuevas. Malva has since evolved from a showcase for domestic and regional designers into a multi-country retailer carrying more than 180 international brands. By 2026, its roster included regional brands such as Johanna Ortiz, Jorge Duque, Andrés Pajón, Brazil’s Farm Rio and Argentina’s Jazmin Chebar, alongside global names including MM6 Maison Margiela, Missoni, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Zimmermann and Ganni. In the fourth quarter of 2026, Malva plans to expand beyond Latin America with its first European flagship in Madrid, showcasing more than 100 Latin American brands.

Prior to Malva, Bursztyn ran his family’s franchise business, Bursztyn Group, becoming its second-generation leader. Founded by his father, Isaac Bursztyn, in 1967 as Sterling Joyeros, the business grew into a retail group with nearly 200 stores across 12 Latin American markets by 2024, operating franchises for brands including CH Carolina Herrera, Coach and Swarovski. In 2022, Bursztyn also co-founded BMG Management Group, which oversees a five-brand franchise portfolio including Crocs in Colombia and Central America.
